immune. In recent years, drug-related incidents and substance use among young people

have been on the rise, with California cities that have large diaspora communities often

reflecting these broader trends.

Cultural stigma and denial make this crisis harder to address. Many families hesitate to seek help out of fear of shame or community judgment, leaving young people isolated at the

exact moment they need support most.

We believe breaking down that silence — through open conversation, education, and

community engagement — is the first step toward recovery and healing.

According to CDC data, California overdose deaths more than doubled between 2018 and 2022, rising from 5,348 to 10,952, largely driven by fentanyl.
